The Attorney General and Minister of Justice confirmed his office is currently reviewing the case of former lawmaker for Banjul Central Abdoulie Saine.
The Justice Minister made this disclosure at a press briefing held yesterday at his Office in Banjul.
It could be recalled that, Mr Saine was arrested, detained, charged and bailed at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court in connection to taken to a WhatsApp audio he released insulting Mandingos, which later went on viral. Whatsapp
According to the AG, his office is looking at the Ablie Saine case very seriously and in fact, the file is on his desk right now and he is also looking at the case personally, not only because is about hate speech or perhaps a possible criminal offends.
“I have taken it upon myself to personally look at the Abdoulie Saine’s case and I am doing that. I have not yet concluded my review and the public will know my conclusion when I am done. The Gambia is a country that goes against hate speech”, the AG told press team.
Mr Tambedou reiterated that hate speech will not be condone in this country anymore.
However, on the issue of Gambians in the Diasporas accused of committing crimes under the former regime of Yahya Jammeh, Tambedou told the press that it is rather unfortunate the government cannot apply extraterritoriality in those circumstances, adding the action is liberal in some countries and criminalize in others.
According to him, there will no longer be any politically motivated prosecution in this country, especially those with no evidence.
For AG, No one will be targeted on account of their membership of any political party or their past without evidence to justify such action. There will no longer be a political motivated prosecution in this country.
