The Gambia Women’s Under-20 national team defeated Guinea-Bissau 2–0 in a regional fixture at the Stade du 24 Septembre in Bissau, bouncing back from their previous defeat to Senegal, officials said.

The Young Queens took an early lead through Sarah Jarju in the seventh minute after she converted a cross from captain Kumba Kassama.

Jarju added her second goal in the second half from the penalty spot after Ellen Gomez was fouled inside the box.

The forward was named Woman of the Match for her performance.

Coach Joseph Jabang’s side controlled much of the game and displayed improved organisation and discipline following a training session and rest day after their loss to Senegal.

The result marks a positive response for the team as they continue their regional campaign.
