The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has formally bid farewell to a contingent of 15 officers deployed to serve under the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan, in a ceremony held at the Police Headquarters in Banjul.
The send-off, organized by the senior management of the force, brought together top police officials, including Inspector General of Police (IGP) Seedy Muctar Touray, his deputy Alagie Demba Sowe, Police Adviser Tamsir Jasseh, and other members of the high command.
Addressing the officers, IGP Touray urged them to uphold unity, professionalism and discipline throughout their mission, stressing that their conduct abroad would reflect directly on both the Gambia Police Force and the country at large. He encouraged them to support one another and to take advantage of professional opportunities within the United Nations system.
“You must see yourselves as your brothers’ and sisters’ keepers,” he told the contingent, while assuring them of management’s support, particularly for those who distinguish themselves through exemplary service.
Deputy Inspector General Sowe reminded the officers of the responsibility they carry as representatives of The Gambia on the international stage.
He cautioned them against distractions and advised them to remain disciplined, manage their finances wisely, and prioritize both personal growth and family welfare.
Police Adviser Tamsir Jasseh and Assistant Inspector General Kalilu Njie also commended the officers, noting that Gambian peacekeepers have built a strong reputation for professionalism in previous missions. They urged the team to maintain and even surpass those standards.
Speaking on behalf of the contingent, Assistant Commissioner of Police and Contingent Commander Steven Mendy assured the leadership of their readiness and commitment to duty, adding that the team had already strengthened internal coordination ahead of deployment.
The ceremony ended with prayers for their safety and success, as the GPF reaffirmed its commitment to international peacekeeping efforts.
