GSSSA Fines Latrikunda Sabiji D15,000, Suspends Athletics Coach

The Gambia Secondary Schools Sports Association (GSSSA) has fined Latrikunda Sabiji Upper and Senior Secondary School D15,000 and suspended the school’s athletics head coach for one year from all sporting activities.

The disciplinary measures were announced on Thursday following a press conference, after a review of incidents that occurred during the 2025 Inter-Schools Athletics Championship final held in Basse, Upper River Region.

According to the Association, the sanctions stem from misconduct attributed to the school during the championship.

“Following a thorough review of the incident(s), the Association has taken the following actions: a fine of Fifteen Thousand Dalasis (D15,000) has been imposed on Latrikunda Sabiji Upper and Senior Secondary School, while the school’s athletics head coach has been suspended for a period of one year from all GSSSA athletics activities,” the statement said.

GSSSA said the measures are in line with its regulations and are intended to uphold discipline, fairness, and the integrity of school sports nationwide.

The Association reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all participating schools and officials strictly adhere to the rules governing inter-school athletics competitions.
