The Secretary General and Party Leader of the National People’s Party (NPP) has extended a message of congratulations to H.E. ANM Ousainou Darboe, following his election as the flagbearer of the United Democratic Party (UDP) for the upcoming 2026 Presidential Election.
In an official statement released on behalf of the NPP’s membership and supporters, the NPP leader praised Mr. Darboe’s continued leadership within the UDP and the confidence placed in him by the party’s delegates and supporters.
“Your election is a clear indication of the confidence and trust the delegates and membership of your party continue to place in your leadership and your longstanding service to the ideals and aspirations of the UDP,” the message read.
The NPP leader reaffirmed his party’s commitment to the values of democratic pluralism, tolerance, and mutual respect, noting that such principles are the cornerstone of The Gambia’s growing democracy.
“As Secretary General and Party Leader of the NPP, I reaffirm my conviction that the strength of our democracy rests on the principles of political pluralism, tolerance, and mutual respect among all political actors,” the statement continued. “It is in this spirit that my party and I remain committed to working with you and all other actors and stakeholders in nurturing and advancing our democratic gains for the collective good of the Gambian people.”
The message also commended the United Democratic Party for the peaceful and transparent conduct of its flagbearer selection process, describing it as a positive contribution to the country’s democratic evolution.
“I further commend the delegates and leadership of the UDP for the orderly conduct of their selection process, which stands as another milestone in the consolidation of our democratic culture,” the statement added.
