Jobe Faces Charges for Threatening Violence and Wilful Damage

Bubacarr Jobe of New Yundum, on Wednesday, 10th September, appeared before Magistrate K.B. Sambou at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court. He was charged with two counts of offence, threatening violence, and wilful property damage.

On the first count, Jobe was charged with threatening violence contrary to Section 77 of the Criminal Offences Act, 2025. The particulars of the offence state that on 4th September, 2025, at New Yundum in the West Coast Region, Jobe, with intent to intimidate and annoy, threatened to kill one Fatima Jobe and Demba Jobe, thereby committing an offence.

On the second count, he was charged with wilful damage to property contrary to Section 290 of the Criminal Offences Act, 2025. It was stated that on the same date and place, Jobe wilfully and unlawfully damaged two window glasses valued at D700, the property of Fatou Hydara.

The charge sheet was read in English and interpreted into Wollof, a language the accused claimed to understand. Jobe denied the charge of threatening violence, stating, “I did not do it,” but pleaded guilty to the wilful damage charge.

Corporal 1038 H. Jatta, appearing for the Inspector General of Police, applied for an adjournment to enable the prosecution to call witnesses to testify on count one while presenting the facts on count two.

The court granted the prosecution’s application and adjourned the case to 15th October, 2025. Jobe was granted bail in the sum of D30,000 with one Gambian surety, who is required to deposit a valid Gambian ID card or passport at the court’s registry. The court further ordered that the surety must depose to means.
