Sarjo Saidy, a resident of Basori Village, appeared before Magistrate K.B. Sambou at Brikama Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 8th September 2025, facing a charge of “general punishment for theft” contrary to Section 226 of the Criminal Offences Act, 2025.
The particulars of the offence state that Saidy, on or about 19th August 2025, allegedly stole two solar panels, each valued at D5,000, totaling D10,000, from Basori Community Health Center.
The accused, who speaks Mandinka, had the charge interpreted to him. When the charge sheet was read, he denied involvement, stating: “Who stole it ran, I don’t steal it.”
During proceedings, Inspector Fadera, representing the IGP, applied to call the first witness and opposed bail, citing concerns that the accused might abscond. The court granted the application.
The case has been adjourned to 15th September 2025, while the accused is remanded in custody until the next hearing.
Meanwhile, the court directed the prosecution to return the alleged stolen solar panels to Basori Community Health Center immediately. The order includes a requirement for the prosecution to document the solar panels with photographs to ensure the health facility, which relies on them for electricity, is not left without power.
