Robbery case transferred to High Court

 A robbery case involving an accused – Mustapha Ceesay – and Sheriff Bah the victim has been transferred from the Kanifing Magistrate’s Court to the special criminal division of the High Court by the presiding Magistrate on Tuesday, 23rd April 2024 without a plea taken.

 According to the charge the accused Mustapha Ceesay is standing trial for orchestrating a violent robbery at ManjaiKunda on the 17th day of April 2024 and that he violently robbed Sheriff Bah by holding onto his neck and ‘bursting it’ then took away his money amounting to two thousand five hundred dalasis (D2,500.00).

 However, Prosecutor Baldeh applied for a transfer of the matter to the Special Criminal Division of the High Court, saying the offence pressed against the accused is a capital offence, and the punishment if found guilty of it is life imprisonment under section 62 of the CPC. Also, he applied for the court to remand the accused in custody pending his appearance at the High Court in under section 208 of the CPC.
