Minister Gomez visits School of Dentistry under construction

 The Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MOHERST) Hon Pierre Gomez Wednesday, 17th April paid a visit to the ongoing construction of the School of Dentistry situated in Banjul at the School of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences. 

Taking on a conducted tour of the site, Hon. Minister Pierre Gomez disclosed that they were there to inspect the work under the instructions of President Barrow to know what’s going on hence the work is on for a while.

He added that the funding of the project is internally generated funds coming from “the Gambia government not from development partners,” while emphasising that the President has instructed that the work should be constructed and pushed like that of the Faraba.

“If we push, with God’s hand, the work will be accomplished. In the coming months, this place will be completed the President has instructed that funding should be provided. Over 30 million dalasis would be provided as extra funds to really support the completion and that’s the assurance I want to give”, he stated.

Herbert Robinson the Vice Chancellor of the University of The Gambia, alluded to it that the project started a couple of years ago.

 He highlighted some of the challenges the dental school is faced with while also giving so background history of the project.

 Dr Abubacarr Jagne, Deputy CMD and Chairman MAC said the project is a huge responsibility to the hospital, dental clinic, and the family medical department to have a place that will accommodate them within the clinic environment. 

“This is progress and it is the development we need,” he expressed joy.

Saihou Ndong, a consultant emphasised that the beneficiary is the dental school of the University of The Gambia and when it’s completed it would have the facilities that are expected. 

He elaborated on the facilities saying on the ground floor there will be a three-story building that is the administration side, office of the secretary, reception, and so on. 4 laboratories and each floor has lecture rooms, and on the top floor where they will have the male and female wards, on the third floor is a kind of down floor where large meetings could be held and also the backup solar and stuffs.
