SSHFC donates food aid to bedridden pensioners

The Management of Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation (SSHFC), on Tuesday, 2nd April 2024 handed over the annual Ramadan food package worth half a million dalasi to bedridden pensioners.

The donation of food aid organized by the SSHFC was held at the SSHFC premises in Banjul and was attended by a large crowd including senior staff of the corporation, pensioners, and others.

Speaking to the gathering, the Managing Director of SSHFC, Mr. Saloum Malang expressed sincere gratitude and appreciation to everyone who honored the occasion meant to present groceries and foodstuff to the bedridden pensioners in this Holy Month of Ramadan.

“It is our firm belief that during this sacred time, no member of our community should go without the basic necessities of life.” he assured the bedridden pensioners while adding that SSHFC  has meticulously curated a selection of essential items including bags of rice, sugar, onions, potatoes, cooking oil, and tomatoe pastes to alleviate their burden in this month of Holy Ramadan and also for them to enjoy the Koriteh festive.

He noted that the gesture is not merely an act of charity, but a testament to their unwavering commitment to the welfare and well-being of the pensioners, who dedicated their lives to the service of of the nation. 

“It is a small token of appreciation for their invaluable contributions and a reminder that they are cherished members of the society,” he appreciated them while saying this is not the first time the corporation will extend such generosity to the community.

In the past the corporation has sponsored medical facilities like Ndeemban Clinic with essential equipment, sponsored youth in their endeavors such as the recent victory of the Gambia Under-21 football team in Norway, supporting Gambia participation in Afcon 2023 and renovation work at the Independent Stadium in Bakau just to mention a few.

Mr. Alphonse Mendy, a pensioner acknowledged and appreciated the gesture from the SSHFC while describing the gifts as very timely considering the holy month of Ramadan. 

He seized the opportunity to thanked the Management of the SSHFC  under the leadership of its Managing Director for this benevolent gesture.
