Ebrima Jallow of Brikama Sanchaba was on Thursday handed a 2-year mandatory jail term for causing actual bodily harm to his sister.

The indictment explained that the convict on the 26th day of February 2024 unlawfully assaulted one Mrs. Sinajo Jallow by hitting her with a broken cement block on her right leg causing her injury.

Delivering his judgment magistrate K.B. Sambou of the Brikama magistrates’ court said that based on the accused person’s own plea of guilty, he therefore find the accused guilty and accordingly convicted him.

The accused, Ebrima Jallow, in his mitigation plea, asked the court to tamper justice with mercy and promised that he was not going to repeat such.

The court presided over by magistrate K.B Sambou, said the mitigation plea of the convict is heard, but his action is uncalled for. He said from the brief factsadduced to the court, it was clear that the accused was arguing with his own mother and ended up hitting the sister. This, he said, showed that the accused was the problem.

“Consequently, I will show the accused no mercy. Rather, I will teach him a lesson to respect his mother. Having said the above, I hereby sentence the accused to a mandatory term of 2 years without an option of fine,” he declared.

The prosecution was represented by PC 1072 Sanneh.
