The National Assembly Member for Foni Jarrol, KebbaToumanding Sanneh, has claimed that the 2024 budget put greater emphasis on travel, allowances, per diem and salaries.

He lamented that a lesser budgetary allocation was made for national development, advising that there is a need to critically look at how the budget would be financed.

Sanneh claimed that the budget would be financed through borrowing, taxes, and grants.

“We need human resources, who are going to execute the budget. In that case, if we lack the right people, who understand how to implement activities of the budget at the end of the day, we will have a problem,” he explained in an exclusive interview with The Voice. He continued: “The budget is not real. They are only saying what favors them and not the masses.”

He explained that going by the report of every ministry, it was seen that some ministries were performing well, adding that the ministries were inherited at their worst.

NAM Sanneh said a lot of agreements that the Energy Ministry signed do not benefit the country.

“Furthermore, the inflation in the country stands at 18.5 percent, which is affecting us. Every sector in this country is not encouraging even the basic commodities are skyrocketing,” he lamented.

The Jarrol legislator said the time has come for Gambians to look beyond their political differences and dialogue on the future direction of their country.
