Volunteers Organize Cleaning Exercise in Brikama

The Gambia Volunteer Trust (GVT), a non-governmental organization, in partnership with the X-Clean Game from Russia organize a cleaning exercise in Brikama on Saturday.  

 

The exercise brought together several young volunteers across the ‘Kombos’, from Kanifing Municipality and Brikama Administrative Region.  

 

Speaking to the Voice during the exercise, Alagie Badjie, the Secretary General of the Gambia Volunteer Trust said, they partner with Clean Games in Russia and that led to the initiative.   

“We have an MOU and one of the things that the Clean Games do is cleaning the environment, we volunteers do the same thing here in the Gambia,” SG Badjie said.  

 

He added that they had the same objective with their partners in Russia which ensured that the environment was sanitized most especially the needed environment.

 

He said the high turnout of the Saturday’s cleaning in Brikama was exceptional which showed how much love the volunteers have for the GVT.  

 

“We as an organization we don’t only stop at environment but we normally receive medical items from donors which we normally share among hospitals clinics and health centres across the country,” he stressed. 

 

Aminata F Jammeh, a member of the GVT expressed happiness over the good turnout even though this was their first activity in Brikama. 

 

She further encouraged others to come out and volunteer with them in cleaning the environment that have to do with people’s health.  

 

“We did a wonderful job at Brikama and I am encouraging others to come forward because we do not want to stop only at cleaning but we have targets to provide support to hospitals,” remarked Aminata.  

 

Ousman Beyai, a volunteer with GVT also expressed delight with the GVT for coming up with such an initiative. Adding that people cannot be healthy while living in a dirty environment which is not conducive. 

 

“The work that we do, make the place clean which is a major part in national development, and when we talk of development this one is not an exception,” he stated.
