A female Guinean Ousman Jallow on Tuesday appeared before Magistrate Mben Faal at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court to answer 21-count charges of theft.

She pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Jallow returns to court today for a ruling on bail following the application filed by the prosecution to deny her liberty as her case continues.

The particulars of count one read that Jallow in September of this year at Serekunda, stole 20 litre gallons of palm oil from one Abdou Rahman. The oil was valued at D50,000.

The details of count two stated that Jallow in September of this year at Serekunda, stole 150 bags of Cassava from one AjiAstou Jallow. The cassava was valued at D421,480.00.

The Prosecution is also attempting to prove the allegation of 160 barrels of palm oil theft against Jallow. The oil, valued at D2, 718,360.00, was the property of a certain Fatoumatta BintaJallow.

She’s also alleged to have stolen D220, 000.00 worth of palm oil from one Mariama Barry at Serekunda in August of this year.

Jallow also stands accused of stealing D621,100.00 worth of palm oil from one Salimatou Bah.

Eight more counts, bordering on palm oil theft, were also read in court.

According to court documents, the items Jallow stole was worth D16,474,095.00.

She pleaded with the court to grant her bail as, according to her, she personally went to the police to report the matter.

But the prosecution expressed the fear that Jallow may jump bail if granted bail or could tamper with investigations as she’s an influential figure. The prosecution also said that it was difficult for the police to arrest her as she changed her address from time to time.

The court decides today as to whether or not she would be granted bail.
