The National Assembly member for Foni Bintang Karanai, Hon Bakary Badgie has claimed that the displaced family members of Foni did not receive any support from the Government since the crises.

In an exclusive interview with this medium, the Hon said the victims of the crises did not receive any support from the government, and they (the government) did not even realize the dislocation of these people since the crises happened.

“Government doesn’t care about what is happening to the people of Foni and they have not given them any moral support. If they have been given moral and sociological support, that would have been better.

“The people of Foni are hoping to be part of the Gambia and for the Government to recognize them as Gambians, and to be treated like Gambians this is something important that the government should take note of. Foni people are Gambians and should be respected as Gambians but to be honest the governments don’t care about us, and our welfare. And they have no concern to donate and support them,” he stressed.

Hon Badgiie added that some people in the Foni’s lost their cattle and they don’t dare to chase their animals in the Cassamace region.

Giving a case scenario, he said a man by the name (Lamin Sanneh) was arrested because he chased his cattle in Cassamace after his arrest a lengthy negotiation was done before he got released.

“These are villages that are very close to Cassamace and that territory is occupied by Senegalese forces, once they arrest anyone within that premises it becomes an issue.”

He went on that after the displacement, some people went back to the community but some of the students that transferred to other schools are yet to be back. But was quick to say the people in those communities are living in fear.
