Water Shortage hits Demfai village

A village in the Central River Region, Demfai, has been hard- hit by water shortage for over weeks now   and has affected the lives and livelihoods of the people in the area.

In an interview with this medium, Ismail Sey, son of the alkalo of the village narrated how they travel about 3kilometres to fetch for water from their neighbouring villages.

Mr. Sey also told this medium how their animals seriously affected due to lack of water in the village and as a result many animals have died.

He noted that there are more than 65 compounds in the village and water is a necessity. Adding that, they can’t leave without water “The issue of water in Demfai village is very hard as access to water remains a major challenge in the village.”

Village Development Community (VDC), Hamat Camara, narrated that the well water in the village is not hygienic for drinks or cooking, and the old borehole need some maintenance.

“Some people have pushed and pull in some of their fetching grounds because everyone wants to have water. All our vegetables turned to dry leaves due to lack of water. The whole day you can’t have more than three buckets of water from the local well due to the population
