ChildFund Donates Instructional Material to MoBSE

ChildFund The Gambia on Friday handed over 3 by 40ft containers of textbooks, and one by 40ft container of school kits to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education. The handing over of the items in the two containers was held at ChildFund promises in Kanifing.

The donation aims to promote the development of teaching and learning in schools as well as improve the quality delivery of education in The Gambia.

In his statement, Momodou Jeng, Director of the Curriculum Research Evaluation and Development unit of the MoBSE, said the provision of teaching and learning materials is one big provision that the Ministry deeply values.

“We are committed to improving teaching and learning in schools and the instructional materials that are been provided today is a big way which as a country will improve the quality of educational delivery in schools,” he added.

He, therefore, expressed gratitude to ChildFund and its partners for the kind gesture and encouraged them to continue to provide support to schools to improve quality education in the country.

On her part, Musukuta Komma, ChildFund Country Director, added that the donation is part of their efforts to complement the government’s efforts in the education sector. Adding that, the government cannot do it alone and as developing partners they deem it appropriate to assist them by bringing learning material that is beneficial to the children.

She disclosed that in July, they handed over 3ft containers of textbooks, and their colleagues from ChildFund and MoBSE went back to get feedback and improve on their designs.

“We learned that textbooks were useful and they were utilizing them. We are not only building the human capital of this country just to serve our nation. but we want Gambians to be everywhere in the world contributing their quarter to global development,” she said.

She went on to encourage all parents to participate in the education of their children, saying it is the fundamental way to participate in the welfare of children.

She thanked MoBSE and the donor partner for their support and assured continuous partnership.
