GTSC minivan sparks anger at Bakau-Westfield garage

The Gambia Transport Service Company minivan has sparked angry reactions from commercial drivers at the Bakau-Westfield car garage, as they complained that the minivan was brought to the garage for service without being registered to garage rules.

The drivers’ protest came as The Gambia government in collaboration with Espace Motor purchased 38 buses to help ease transport challenges in the country.

However, Foday Kuyateh, an elder of the garage expressed his anger about the action of the Gambia Transportation Service Company in bringing their vans to their garage without registering them.

“We are all Gambians and have the intention to ease the struggle of our people but how it is done is very wrong,” he said.

“We have families, we paid the tax, insurance and always obtained our driving licenses, so we must take something home for our families. Any car that is to come and pick passengers from this garage must be registered first to the management of the garage,” he added.

Meanwhile, he said: “I feel so comfortable with the new buses and vans than the old ones because it has air conditioning in it,” a student told us. We want them to register or otherwise they won’t be stationed here.”

However, Ebrima Jammeh driver of the minivan explained that: “I came in the morning and stationed at the bus station on the highway and suddenly get confronted by the garage members that I shouldn’t station it here.”
