OIC Project: Drivers lament terrible traffic ahead of rainy season

Score of Drivers in Kombo North on Monday expressed dismay over the terrible traffic condition that will befall the area in this year rainy season, taking into consideration the on-going OIC road project at Yundum, Coastal Road and Turntable Highways.

Speaking to The Voice newspaper, Kebba Touray of Safety Garage Nema junction said the road construction has been going on for quite a long time and it needs to be fast track considering the fact that the rainy session is almost due and the road condition is extremely poor.

“If the road is dry, we can struggle slowly and get to our destination but as soon as it rain, it causes a lot of problem for the drivers. Also, the traffic will be congested and terrible because the destination that drivers usually use won’t be accessible.

With that he said they will not be able to reach their destinations on time due to the terrible traffic while they would not be able to park in some places for passengers to alight, “because every place will be filled up with water.”

Noting that they will have no choice than parking in the middle of road for passengers to alight, this he said is not proper.

He, like others, appealed to the OIC Project Manager to fast track the construction or helps them to level up the highways for them during the rainy season.

To Musa Saine, another driver said all cars from turntable heading to Brikama and Airport junction are finding it hard to cross in between. So, that’s why they will use the short cut which usually affects the customers because they don’t use the highway to go straight to the garage.

Meanwhile, Dawda Manka, driver from Turntable Taxi Park said most of the people using that highway will stand for hours before they get car and some even go home hopelessly. “Most of those that go home are students imagine standing waiting for car for an hour or more whilst lectures is already on at school, it is not easy so they will go back home after endless waiting,” he explained.

Also, he added, most drivers have stop using that direction due to bad traffic caused by the on-going construction, adding that if it rain, it will make it worst. This is simply, because drivers will stop plying the road.

Mr Manka as well joined others and urged government to fast track the construction.
