Gambian artist works exhibit at The Artistic Routes of Saint-Louis

Gambian finest artist specialized in digital photography has been privilege to exhibit his works at the ongoing Exposition Artistiques De Saint-Louis known as The Artistic Routes of Saint-Louis in Senegal.

Mamat Sallah was among the selected artists across Africa currently exhibiting his digital art/photography works in the 8th edition of the exhibition.

8th edition of the exhibition “The Artistic Routes of Saint-Louis was organised by the Ndar Creation Association which kicked-off on May 7 and will end by June 0 2022 at the Senegal Research and Documentation Center (Ex IFAN de Saint-Louis).

The ongoing edition paraded works of various artists which include painting, photography, sculpture, design and digital art.

The NDAR CREATION association is a cultural association created in 2011 in Saint-Louis in the north of Senegal by young visual artists with the mission promoting arts and culture in the northern region, but also in Senegal and the rest of the world.

Speaking at the exhibition, Mamat Sillah, disclosed that it is only two artists selected for the exhibition from the Gambia, himself specilised in Digital Art Photography and Mamou Camara, young painter.

According to him, in this 8th edition of the exhibition 35 professional artists were selected across Africa and different parts of Senegal, Kenya, and Gambia among others while Nigeria serves as mentor as the exhibition expanded this year.

He disclosed that Gambian artists participated for the first time this year and it is a great honour and privilege to them to exhibit their works and talents which received lots of positive comments from the participants that continue visit the exhibition center since opening.

“It is a great experience for me to have my works selected as part for such international arena to expose my work out of the shore of The Gambia,” he said.

His work is unique at the ongoing exhibition hence “there is no one seen yet in this circuit of Digital Photography. I have been interacting with different artists and many Gambian photographers but most them are more of like commercial photographers which are mostly taking pictures at ceremonies and so on.”

Digital photography/art as he explained is a form of having different pictures reassemble to fit what you want to express or message you want to pass across to people , “it is a new dimension of photography and is more an abstract which has given me space to fit into any fine arts platform.”
