Alieu Jagne, head coach of Hawks FC, expressed delights for collecting the maximum points against Steve Biko to join the race for the First Division League title.

Hawks FC defeated Steve Biko 2-0 in their first game of the second round of the league played on Sunday.

Habib Camara opened the scoring for Hawks FC in the 23rd minute, before Modou Lamin Jarju doubled their lead in the 73rd minute of the second half.

“It was a difficult game, knowing that Steve Biko with the crowd will come and attack us by using their two wonderful strikers,” he said, “we trained the whole week about how to play and stop them and their very good strikers. We did very well by stopping them. So we deserved the three points.”

After guiding his team to join Brikama and Real at the top of the table with 29 points, Coach Alieu Jagne noted that they are going prepare game-by-game so as to collect the maximum points and maintain their position.

Atnant Musa, head coach of Steve Biko said it was a bad game after losing against Hawks FC, adding that sometimes this is how it goes in football, no matter what you did.

“This is why in football, you need a little bit of luck to keep your game going. I’m proud of my team for doing very well and showing a wonderful performance. Luck wasn’t just on our side,” he said

He continued: “We tried very well to level the goal that we conceded in the first half. We changed our tactics in the second period by taking a risk either to level the scores or taking another goal. Luck was not on our side which was why we conceded the second goal.”

Coach Musa who guided Steve Biko at 11th position with 19 points, added that the goals they conceded was lack of concentration from his players, noting that they are far better than Hawks FC

According to him, they need a couple of points after 15 games to know where they stand and also know where their target is, adding that but they couldn’t do that calculation simply because they played only 13 games with two game-in-hands.

“We don’t play our game-in-hands before playing our first game in the second round which makes it very difficult to know our stands. After 15 games we will calculate how many points we have and what we need to adjust,” he said.

Meanwhile, Steve Biko return to action today, on Wednesday, when they take on Banjul United in their suspended week-15 fixture, while Hawks FC take on Marimoo in the late encounter.
