Ex-lawmaker says NPP launched campaign against his re-election

Omar Ceesay, former National Assembly member for Niamina East constituency, has accused the ruling National Party officials and supporters of launching campaign against his re-election in the concluded parliamentary election.

Honourable Ceesay contested under the ticket of Gambia Democratic Congress.

“I didn’t regret the five years I spent at the National Assembly and I have no issue with the people of Niamina. This is how the election went by. They voted me into office and voted me out and I am grateful to them and I respect their decision. This is what God has decided and I would not blame the people of Niamina for my defeat. This is not the end of the journey,” he said.

According to him, it is not the function of the National Assembly members to build good roads and other council functions to their respective constituency.

“I cannot tell you what waits for the future but what I can tell you is that I am stronger and deeper into politics today than before. I believe people have high hopes in us because we have been advocating for the rights and welfares of the people especially the farmers and the poor people.

“Honestly and frankly, I was a special target within the NPP starting from the president to the last person, all of them went against me. But I thank God for that because if you don’t have opponents in life, then you are not important, I have never insulted anyone of them, all what I did was to speak the truth to them to ask them to change how they are governing the country,” he claimed.

He continued that “this is what I have been telling the government and I will continue to fight for the Gambian people especially Niamina people and I will not be afraid of anyone in doing that. It was hard on me because I was in a war with the government and the president who told the people of Niamina to vote for someone who has respect and discipline.”
