Honourable Mama Kandeh, leader of Gambia Democratic Congress, has congratulated the victorious parliamentarians, adding despite his party’s failure to win a single seat in the concluded national assembly election that they still have trust in some parliamentarians who will defend their interest and the country’s sovereignty.

Kandeh who was addressing supporters of GDC after the parliamentary election, said: “GDC militants and supporters and lovers and GDC executive and GDC in the Diaspora I am your secretary general honorable Mama Kandeh. I am very proud of you for your support and you have done what you can. And for the first time in history what GDC had done has never happened. Truly for me, I have nothing against you but only to thank you because you are doing your best contribute your quota to the development of the country.”

“You people have done what you can but we have no control over the voters because they decide what they want. Thus, we don’t have control over them. They have decided to vote for someone who pleased them and you people also voted for someone who pleased you. Our intension was to win but God decide we don’t get that. I want to advise you to keep the unity and work for the future and know that a lot is coming,” he added.

“We are here and Gambia will remain, let us just keep working for the development of the country and the party. You have done great work and I am pleased with it, however if someone had told me that we wouldn’t win twenty plus seats, I wouldn’t believe it. But this is how God decided the outcome of the election has gone.

“Congratulation to the winners because at the end this is Gambia. So, no one is a loser because we will still have people in the parliament who will defend our interest and protect the integrity and sovereignty of the country. I have hope and trust in some winners who I am sure they will protect the interest of the country,” he continued.
