Gomez agrees to ‘reconciliation’ between Barrow and Darboe

Henry Gomez, a presidential adviser, has agreed to reconciliation between President Adama Barrow and United Democratic Party’s leader, Ousainou Darboe.

“As I always say, I have nothing against Ousainou Darboe, I can say he is a father to me because I have learned a lot from Ousainou Darboe. I can say Ousainou Darboe educated me in politics, Hamat Bah educated me in politics and Halifa Sallah educated me in politics. Even if we dislike each other, let’s have respect for one another. I have welcomed the idea of reconciliation between Barrow and Darboe because who am I to tell Adama Barrow not to reconcile with Ousainou Darboe. But let it be based on truthfulness and honesty,” Mr Gomez said respectfully.

“The Gambia’s problem is not caused by the National People’s Party, it’s the problem of the opposition because they could consult Barrow and say this is not a one-man show, the country is in crisis or the world is in crisis. How can we work together? But they are quick for cheap politics – election comes, you distribute rice and you don’t win and you forget the people,” he added.

However, he said his Gambia Party for Democracy and Progress will continue to support Barrow’s National People’s Party to register developments in the country, and warned those undermining the party.

“As I used to say, GPDP, if anyone undermines us, you are undermining your calamity. We are in a hurry for anything yet and we are on serious work because we are in work with President Adama Barrow and we don’t know betrayal. That’s why we supported President Adama Barrow during the presidential election. We agreed to support President Barrow to put forward candidates for the National People’s Party. And we will ensure the National People’s Party dominates the National Assembly to make sure that President Barrow does his development for the country. We have seen in the past five years, President Barrow was living a fight. But this is why we now want President Barrow to get more powers in the parliament,” he said
