Gambia Democratic Congress’s National Assembly candidate for Jeshwang constituency has told voters to vote against APRC candidates backing the ruling National People’s Party in the April parliamentary elections.
APRC has been ripped apart last year after exiled President Yahya Jammeh fired Fabakary Tombong Jatta-led executive for supporting President Adama Barrow’s re-election bid without his consent.
But the FTJ-led leadership who still backs Barrow’s National People’s Party refused Jammeh’s sacking describing him as not the sole owner of the party.
However, speaking to electorates in his native home, Ebo Town, Modou Ebrima Cham described the APRC backing Barrow’s party as destroyers of the country, and urged voters to vote against them in the upcoming parliamentary elections due in April.
According to him, an APRC supporting the exiled former President Jammeh is the only bona fide party, adding FTJ group are not for the nation’s good.
“Let no one fool you to vote for NPP (National People’s Party) because if you vote for NPP, the country will plunge into ditch. There is only one bona fide APRC which is the APRC of Yahya Jammeh,” he said.
MC Cham who is also the national youth president of Gambia Democratic Congress added that: “Fabakary Tombong Jatta’s APRC is supporting (President) Adama Barrow to destroy the country because, in fact, the country is on the verge of destruction.”
Mr Cham’s comments come after the Minister of Tourism and Culture Honorable Hamat Bah warned electorates against voting for the independent parliamentary candidates at a political gathering held in Kerr Ardo in Badibou.
“If you (electorates) give your votes to the independent candidates, then you are destroying. Be careful of the independent candidates, they are only good at destroying the country. They are more dangerous than the yellows, because we know the intention of the yellows and we know how to deal with them,” a reflection of what Honourable Bah told his listeners at the said political gathering.
“Those people masking behind the banner of independent, if they come to you, tell them the truth to go and withdraw their candidature to the Independent Electoral Commission. If they do, “Bah added.
