President Adama Barrow has called on Gambians to commit themselves to law and peaceful manner in the upcoming National Assembly elections

Speaking in Banjul during The Gambia’s 57 Independent celebrations, President Barrow told Gambians that “the National Assembly Elections are a few weeks away. Let us commit ourselves to the Law, and go about the electoral process in an orderly and peaceful manner.”

We did well for the December 4th Presidential Election and can do better in the next round of elections, he said.

“The Security Services continue to keep us safe. They keep the peace, secure our borders and assets, maintain law and order, and go the extra mile to entertain us with their joyful melodies. With assurances of our appreciation, support, and love for them, I thank them immensely for their impressive parade and encourage them to remain alert,” he added.

“As we celebrate our National Day, let us give a wider meaning to our political independence, and link it with national unity. Political independence, economic independence and national unity have a bearing on one another; however, we must recognize that national unity is the foundation for nation building.  To reinforce this foundation, as peace-loving and law-abiding citizens, we have to accord one another due respect, and allow every citizen space to live productively. As I always say, the future is bright, and we can achieve our development goals if we unite and work as a cohesive nation,” he continued.

Meanwhile, he assured Gambians a brighter future, adding that the ground is level enough for everyone to succeed. Scholarships, employment and other income earning opportunities are available to help people become productive members of society.

“You are encouraged to take your education with utmost seriousness and commitment, as the future lies in your hands.  Remember, it is said that tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today,” he said.
