Peace Ambassadors organises intercultural trip to Dakar

Peace Ambassadors The Gambia in partnership with the Ambassadors De Le Paix Senegal peace have organised an intercultural event in Dakar Senegal.

The trip from the Gambia is expected to visit various places including the Gore Island, renaissance monument, Game Parks, Beach outing and many more. The team consisting of 55 youth left the Gambia on Sunday around 12:00pm and arrived in Dakar at 19:17pm.

The Peace Ambassadors The Gambia 2021-2022 trip to Dakar team leader, Abdoulie A Taal said the this trip is all about connecting the rich cultures of the Senegambia region as this region still has it culture which is still maintaining its existence with different tribes and norms.

“So, in this trip we are trying to visit some of this cultural places like Gore Island because the place is already known for its cultural existence from the time of the slave trade when the slave was kept there and also where they call ‘the journey of no return’ whereby if you go you will not come back before moving to Europe and other countries, he said”.

“The team planting coconut plants in school call ‘Ex Clemenceau’ where they are residence, in Medina, we have some trees here so that it can be a legacy as part of the peace ambassadors between Gambia and Senegal, we have been coming here for the past years we have not been seeing any trees around and this time around we feel to do this to serve as a recognition and a support from our part to the school and we expect this will go a long way.”

Matarr Saidykhan member of the peace Ambassadors The Gambia said, the Dakar trip is part of an activity that the Peace Ambassadors embarked on as their annual actual activity and they implement lot of activity every year. The first trip in 2007 was funded by the UNESCO which was a cultural diversity for the organization to come out and to understand and study the cultures norms on other part of the Senegambia region going beyond borders, he said.

Amie Keita first time participant of the trip said, she is excited and hoping to enjoy more from the trip by learning from experience with visit to different places in Dakar that are known for its cultural values. She added that the trees they planted in their residence is something that will always remain in memory as the school would benefit from the bearing fruits of the coconut trees that they planted in the near future.
