GDC to Back UDP in Election Petition Case

Momodou M.C. Cham,, National Youth President of Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) has authoritatively informed The Voice Newspaper that his party has finally agreed not to file election petition at the Supreme Court in Banjul to challenge the results of the 4th December, Presidential election.

However, he was quick to reveals that the party that took third position GDC in the election will be backing the runner-up UDP who is challenging results of the December 4 election at the Supreme Court.

He also emphasized that despite his party is challenging the results they will provide UDP with all the evidences they gathered on Election Day.

It could be recalled that UDP, GFA, GDC, Essa Faal and other allies issued a joint communique on the 5th December, rejecting the results of the Presidential Election won   by President-Elect Adama Barrow with 53% of the votes.

Meanwhile independent candidate Essa Mbye Faal and Marie Sock of the Social Alliance Movement later withdrew protest and the communique issued earlier and proceeds to congratulate President-Elect Adama Barrow on his victory.

“We have decided not to file a separate election petition at the Supreme Court to challenge the result of the 4th December, President Election. We thought that after signing a communique with the UDP in rejecting the election result there was no need to file a separate petition,” GDC, National Youth President told The Voice.

He added: “We will provide UDP with all the evidences in our hands and collective drive to challenge the election results. We have gathered sufficient evidences from the ground and GDC will provide all these evidences to the UDP.”
