Region 2 East successfully defended their Primary Schools Inter-Regional Football Tournament girls’ title after defeating Region 2 West 4-0 in the final of the competition’s third edition.
The all-West Coast Region final saw Region 2 East produce a strong performance to retain the championship and extend their dominance in the tournament.
Alimatou Badjie gave the defending champions an early advantage with goals in the third and fifth minutes, putting Region 2 East firmly in control of the match.
Captain Haddy Saidy added a third goal in the 16th minute with a direct free-kick to give her side a comfortable lead before the halftime break.
Region 2 West attempted to respond in the second half, but Region 2 East maintained control of the contest and added a fourth goal through Awa Saidy to complete the victory.
The champions also collected the tournament’s major individual awards.
Isatou Camara was named Best Player of the Tournament in recognition of her performances throughout the competition, while Awa Saidy finished as the tournament’s leading scorer with four goals.
The victory enabled Region 2 East to retain the title and reaffirm their position among the strongest teams in the Primary Schools Inter-Regional Football Tournament.
