GMC will Not Back Any Political Party in December Election- Mai Fatty

Mai Ahmed Fatty Leader of Gambia Moral Congress (GMC) has declared his candidacy for the December 4th, Presidential Election, insisting that the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has no rights to deter GMC from participating in the forthcoming election.

He made this declaration at his resident in Kotu, where GMC Leader announced that the party will not endorsed any political party in the presidential race.

“Today, having regard to the state of the country, and confident of our ability to fix the urgent challenges facing our country, I have great privilege and honour to declared I will stand as candidate for president of the Republic of The Gambia, as flagbearer of Gambia Moral Congress.

For the first time in the history of our party, the GMC is presenting a candidate,” he said.

The declaration was made few days after the party won its court case against the Independent Electoral Commission regarding the rejection of Mr. Fatty’s nomination for the December 4th election.

He emphasized that GMC is a registered party to contest in elections but not in the contrary of becoming second fiddle to any political party.

Speaking on the IEC decision to appeal against the High Court ruling that allowed him to contest, he said the Independent Electoral Commission is not a country of its own but rather acting under the constitution of the Gambia.

He affirmed that the commission has no rights to deter him from contesting in the election hence the court has ruled in his favor, adding that GMC will kick-off its campaign effectively even if it will do so in one day.

“As President of the Gambia, In Shaa Allah, I will make sure public policies are directed to balance the objectives of efficiency, effectiveness and equity in order to ensure a broad based poverty reducing growth and development strategy. The dividend of which will be distributed fairly across all the demographic segments,” Mai Ahmed Fatty disclosed as plans of GMC government.

He added: “Our aim is to achieve the directive principle of state policies encapsulated in Chapter 20 of our constitution i.e, creation of wealth, generation of employment, reduction of poverty, elimination of corruption and the general orientation of values.”
