Ya Kumba Jaiteh’s Assault and Obstruction Case continue as Witness Testifies

The Ya Kumba Jaiteh and father, Yusupha Jaiteh’s case was Tuesday continued at the Kanifing Magistrate Court presiding over by Principal Magistrate Isatou Janneh  Njie. Their offences included assault and obstruction.

It could be recalled that Ya Kumba Jaiteh was charged with two counts of offence-assault and obstruction of inspector on duties while her father Yusupha Jaiteh also charged with a single count offence-obstruction of inspector on his duties.

Yusupha Jaiteh, a witness who said he know only the principal officers, Fadera and Jarju and who had testified before the court said When Tijan board the vehicle that was the time they were sprayed by the officers while they drove (away).

He said he was the first one who left the compound to the scene, and that when he arrived at the scene he heard  Tijan shouting, that was the time the boys came from different directions to separate  Tijan from the drug squad. He testified further that they were in the compound, about 35 meters away from the scene and that Ya Kumba Jaiteh was behind him and she cuddled her baby while her telephone was on her left hand. Saying that “I arrived and asked what happen and the three officers were beating Tijan, I asked them (again) what happen but none of them answer me.”

He went for that in his testimony that the officers didn’t find anything on Tijan and there was no way Tijan can insisted from the officers because he was handcuffed, while being in handcuffed he said Ya Kumba arrived and asked what happened, among the three boys one of them told her that the drug squad arrested Tijan .

He said that was the time Ya Kumba said I am honorable Ya kumba Jaiteh tell me what happen, he said that’s how the officers dispersed, couple of seconds they sprayed the entire place but the first spray was sprayed on us and there were about fifty people at the scene.

Mover over, he said Ya Kumba didn’t hurt any officers because Ya Kumba cuddled her baby, the baby was one year some months.

He said Tijan and the others from the nightclub were arrested, later on the public left the scene because they were not happy about what the officers did. They put Tijan wrongly inside the vehicle as his head was down and the legs on top. And that they wanted to search Tijan but he doesn’t want to be searched.

“Tijan was taken to Serrekunda Police station while Ya Kumba and I followed them to the station where we found him at the drug squad office. In the office, we asked but they couldn’t tell us what happened, that was the time Ya Kumba contacted the commissioners of the area” he explained.

The case was adjourned to the 24th November at 10:30am for continuation, APS Jahateh represented the IGP.
