Staggering rate of unemployment hits Kanilai

The home village of former president Yahya Jammeh has been hit by a staggering rate of youth unemployment, as many dropped out of school for lack of fund.

Speaking to The Voice exclusively, Modou N Tamba, PRO of Kanilai youth development association said: “the rate of unemployment is increasing in the village because many of them could not further their education while others were force to leave their work places due to political differences. The rate of unemployment is high here as I am speaking to you.”

“We are facing many challenges which include the children education in the village, because there are students who are coming to school without proper uniform and even books is a problem, while others are living with their families from hand to mouth,” he added.

According to him, “children don’t have conducive learning environment because mentally they are not fit due to some family problems they are facing.

Speaking on the Kanilai Institute of Science and Technology, which was left to be completed before former president Jammeh left the power, he said they are discussing to see what they can do to make sure the Science and technology institution is completed for lectures to start.

Many youths across the country can benefit from it, but to our dismay we were told it is a government own property due to that Kanilai as a community abstain completely. Had it been the institution is completed by this time you will have seen so many changes,” he continued.

Sanna Bojang also a youth in Kanilai said the problem of education in his community is because of politics.

“Even teenagers are in politics, what caused that,” he asked.

He noted that the issue of politics and tribal sentiments is damaging the future. Sanna said, insulting each other and hating other’s tribes different from yours is also another issue the country is facing as a nation, “politics is always civilized when people take the right principles of politics which is meant to bring us together as a nation for us to develop our country,” he said.

“The youth of Kanilai are working toward the development of the Nation and compacting people together as one, not only Kanilai but the whole of Foni we are always one, we always follow one voice if the words from the person are concrete and no nasty,” he also added.
