Darboe says December 4 Election Will Be A Referendum

Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, secretary general and party leader of United Democratic Party (UDP) has stated that the upcoming 4th December election is going to be about fundamental choices between contrasting visions of “what our people want and deserve on the one hand and an unrelenting effort by a failed president to regenerate the very system, practices and orientation that Gambians rejected in 2016.”

The UDP party leader said disclosed this on Friday at the launching of the party   5-Point Agenda and Manifesto as part of events marking 25 years existence of the UDP since its formation in August of 1996.

He added: “The choice before us as a nation at a crossroads and our task is to offer a solid, clear and comprehensive road map that marks a discernible departure from the current lethargy and failure we have been saddled with for the last four years. To this end, I am very pleased to unveil a long list of high priority areas that forms the basis of our manifesto – an ambitious agenda for moving The Gambia forward from 2022 – 2026.”

SG Daboe who was once a vice president of this nation disclosed  that these critical areas are essential for the kind of economic and social safety nets that can uplift Gambians people while at the same time consolidating democracy.

“Our party’s manifesto is also designed to prepare our very youthful population for future that is full of opportunities and a nation that is free, democratic and at peace with itself,” he pointed out.

He called on Gambians to endeavour to learn about UDP’s very clear agenda designed to positively transform The Gambia and Gambians, adding that this is hope to earn or win ones support for the United Democratic Party.

The party has also vowed to build a ‘capable state for effective delivery of social services to the Gambians including a pandemic containment and response framework, if UDP is elected to power come December 4, Presidential Election.

The 5-Point Agenda namely; Youth Employment and Empowerment Education and Skills Training; Nutrition; Agriculture and Food Security; Public Health Security and Social Protection and Energy and Digital Infrastructure.

The opposition party dilated on its newly launched official website saying it is a priority for a UDP government during the first 100 days and the first year will focus on the initiation of the youth empowerment strategy, public sector reforms, the reforms of the security sector and zero tolerance on corruption and violence against women.

“Our focus is to ‘create a capable state for the effective delivery of social services to the Gambian people’ including a pandemic containment and response framework if elected. A UDP government will take office fully prepared to govern with clear benchmarks for measuring and delivering Transformative development results as transparently and accountably as possible,” the party leader said.
