Thieving man arraigns before court, pleaded guilty

Thieving man who was arraigned before Magistrate Isatou Janneh Njie of Kanifing Magistrate Court has pleaded guilty to a single count of offence levelled against him when appeared in court on Monday.

Jimmy Johnson, on 14th day of August 2021 stole from one Asanatou Sillah the sum of D39, 800.00 (Thirty Nine Thousand Eight Hundred Dalasis) and when the charge sheet was read to him in the language he understand he pleaded guilty to the offence.

Narrating the event, Police Prosecutor Inspector Touray  explained to the court how the incident occurred, he said on that day  when the accused went to the complainant shop he pretended coming to buy a trouser from the shop, while  the shop owner was out in the toilet.

Returning back inside the shop she found the accused person standing and asked him what he wanted, the accused replied that he wanted to buy a trouser from the shop.

He continued in his narration that while the shop owner was talking to him, Jimmy Johnson, she noticed that her bag was wide opened the prompted her to check the bag found nothing in the bag anymore.

That was the time the complainant shouted ‘sahchai’ and boys around ran after him and apprehended him and from there he was taken to the police station where he was arraigned for court.

He however pleaded guilty and begged the court to have mercy on him, and vowed not to do it again.

However Magistrate Isatou Janneh Njie sentenced him to a fine of D5,000.00 in default to serve 5 months imprisonment, while the complainant money was returned to her in the court.
