Top officials of Kanifing Municipal Council and Newcastle County have inked a developmental relationship MoU that will pave efficiency leadership and transparency.
Top officials discussed collaboration ways to tackle waste management within the Kanifing Municipality, parks and recreation, urban farming, affordable housing, and climate change and green technology.
They also visited the Bakoteh Dumpsite which has generated much talks and concerns for the past years before they proceeded to Bakoteh Fish Market and the Bakau Women’s Garden.
“A great day for KM as County Executive Matthew Meyer signed a proclamation declaring July 8, as Kanifing Municipal Council Day in Newcastle County, Delaware. Mr Matthew Meyer also honoured me with a ‘challenge coin’ to always remind me of the virtues of Honesty, Transparency and Efficiency in leadership,” Ahmed Talib Bensouda, Mayor of Kanifing said.
The two officials both committed to strengthening the bond between the people of KM and Newcastle County and pledge to work together in all areas of development.
“The day was ended with a visit to KMCs new GIS unit and a courtesy call to the Ministry of Local Government. Today I gave the Keys to the Municipality to Matthew Meyer, County Executive of Newcastle County in Delaware State USA.
“Mr Meyer with delegation including Vice President of DACC (Delaware Africa Caribbean Coalition) Mr Hagi Dukureh is on a weeklong visit with us at Kanifing Municipality to build a bi-lateral relationship between Kanifing Municipal Council and Newcastle County which is home to 560,000 Americans. Today in line with this agenda we visited the Bakoteh Dumpsite, Bakoteh Fish Market and the Bakau Women’s Garden,” KMC said in a statement.
