KMC sends out truck to clear fallen trees

Kanifing Municipal Council and Department of Services has dispatched its field workers and open trucks out to clear fallen trees and debris in strategic areas throughout the municipality.

Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda assured residents that Kanifing Municipal Council would do its best to mitigate and prevent future natural disasters in the municipality.

According to a statement from the Council which read “Mayor Bensouda takes this opportunity to assure all residents that KMC will continue to do all in its ability best to help in mitigating and preventing the escalation of future natural disasters.”

He also sent his sympathy and solidarity to the victims within the municipality after the Council learnt about the destructive effects of last night’s rains (last Wednesday) and violent storms that have affected many in the municipality and beyond.

“The Council has deployed its workers with equipment to clean up strategic areas occupied by fallen trees and debris in the municipality. We continue to count on the genuine cooperation and partnership of the general public,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, Banjul City Council spokesman Modou Lamin B. Bah said: “we will work with the National Disaster Management Agency responsible for disasters so that we would see how best we can support these victims by making sure that some of their rooftops that are off, we can buy corrugated-iron sheets for them.”
He also expressed that the council noticed the incident with ‘great concern’ and is in solidarity with Banjulians affected by the disaster.
