Sportlight on: NAUSEOUS  Jamaican Artiste on the Rise

By: Bakary Ceesay

The Island of Jamaica and in particular the city of Kingston is the birth place of The King’s Music, REGGAE. The talent born in this Island Paradise is amazing and the latest to make his way on to the world stage is The Artist Know as NAUSEOUS.

Born Simon Whyte, NAUSEOUS did his early schooling at the New Day and John Mills schools in Kingston. In 1997, at the age of thirteen, Simon met Ras Negus I who became a mentor and gave him his first lessons in songwriting and also helped him write his first recording, a song named, “Denise.” Soon after this experience, hemigrated to the United States in 1999.

Also a skilled footballer (soccer player) Simon actually played semi-pro soccer for a short while in the Spring of 2000. However, music was always his passion and later that same year, while still in high school, he and some of his friends started a group
called Mercenaries/M5.

In those early years the group rubbed shoulders with some big names in the Reggae Music business, among them; Sean Paul, Agent Sasco, Skreechy Dan, Spragga Benz and Louie Ranking, to name a few. In fact it was with Ranking’s “Rock Stone Production” that they did their first recordings and in 2004 the Jamaica Observer did a feature on the works they had done.

In 2006 Simon decided to step away from music for a while and started his own retail business. Despite the fact that his business was doing well, deep in his soul Whyte knew that his passion was music. A name change from “Sample” (as he was known in the group) to “NAUSEOUS” saw him returning to what he truly loved, Reggae Music.

NAUSEOUS teamed up with his uncle and production partner – Robert Sutherland of Nijeri Records – at the start of 2020 and soon the music ball got rolling again. His first release; “Eyes Can See,” was released in September 2020 to some good reviews and heavy rotation in Jamaica, Europe, Australia and some countries on the African Continent. The video for this song is currently on YouTube.

Since “Eyes Can See,” three more singles have been released; “Special Attention,” “Ms Kitty,” (produced by Roger Grant and Patrick “Guitsy” Dunn) and”Guide Over Us,” a special Prayer for these times. With the steady building of his repertoire the NAUSEOUS album cannot be far away.

A very conscious person The Artist spends time soul searching and seeking spiritual answers. This quest is how his time is spent, when he is not working on his music. Simon Whyte the Artist known as NAUSEOUS, ready for the world.
