 By Mama A. Touray

Nusrat Senior Secondary School Government and History Club Saturday commemorated the Republican day at the school ground.

Commenting on the day, Mr Amadou Gaye, coordinator of the Government and History Club described the day as “historic, memorable and worth gracing.”

He said the Republican Day was the day when The Gambia and Gambians ended five years of constitutional monarchy.

“This was the day when sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara became president elect and it was the day when the wind of Republicanism blew Like cats and dogs,” he said

According to him the Day was the day when national building started in earnest and it was the Day when Mama Gambia began the realistic process of national consciousness and development intensification.

“Today is 24th April 2021, exactly 51years when The Gambia gained Republican status and The Gambia is today 51 unbroken years as a Republic, not 51 months, weeks or days,” he stated.

Fatoumatta Conteh, president of the Government and History Club among others gave a remarkable statement about the day.
