Police expand probe in Sanyang incident

Police said they have expanded investigation into Sanyang incident to cover other issues about the problem while progress is been made on the issue.

The investigation started after youth of Sanyang community took to the street to protest the brutal killing of Gibril Ceesay, who was allegedly killed by a Senegalese man.

Speaking with this medium, police spokesman Lamin Njie, said the Court proceeding is ongoing and the investigations have been expanded to cover other areas as well.

“The rest of the investigations are to do with gathering evidence to be able to diligently prosecute individuals who are found wanting in court. Whatever, we feel that a progress has been made already,” he added.

He noted that “the most important thing about the situation is that there are some people who are found ‘cut-able’ and they have been charged accordingly.”

The spokesman disclosed that a panel has been instituted to look into the Sanyang incident and the panel already submitted a report to the courts about the investigation that is why some individuals have been charged and put before the courts.

“The police, for now cannot tell what will happen to the suspect after the trial because it’s base on court decision,” he said, and the matter has been mentioned in court. Also, it has been transferred to criminal division of the High Courts and suspect is being remanded under custody in central prison
