US-based Gambian rights advocate, has said she joined one of the nation’s oldest political parties, People’s Democracy Organisation Independent and Socialism (PDOIS), because she of shared values.

Jahan Dukureh, who is a well-known activist around the world, said: “because we have a shared value. A lot of values that I believe in and the way that I think The Gambia can advance. The Gambia that we all want, I see that PDOIS shares those same values like I do and that’s the reason why I joined them.”

She said whatever she joins in has to be something that she has passion for and that: “it has to be something that shares the same value like I do and PDOIS is one political party that shares those core values. I have.”

According to her, many Gambians don’t understand what People’s Democratic Organisation Independent and Socialism’s ideology is, because “it is about free education, about free healthcare, better health system and sharing our words.”

Ms Dukuruh commended the party’s leadership of being very honest in what they do.

She said she didn’t join the party as a political party but that she joined because of her nation, citing the system of governance of PPP and APRC of not very ideal to the nation.
