Dr Jagne: ‘Farmers will not pay tax under APP gov’t’

By Adama  Makasuba

Dr Ebrima Jagne, leader of All People’s Party has pledged that his government will exempt Gambian farmers from paying all types of taxes in this country.

Dr Jagne speaking with confidence therefore challenged all the nation’s political leaders who would contest in the 4 December 2021 election to make pledge to the public that they will allocate half of their salary to the country if anyone of them wins the presidential race.

He said: “If APP government comes to power by the grace of God in three years, we will put into place – the farmers wouldn’t pay tax anymore. The poor Gambians farmers wouldn’t pay tax – whether it is council tax or yard tax, they will be exempted from paying tax.”

Dr Jaign, 61, added: “We are going to eradicate that system because it is (awful) those struggles to get what they will eat and you put burden on them that they should pay huge amount of tax. Let’s balance the tax system justly.”

The doctor turned politician continued: “I challenge any political leader who want to contest in the 2021 to vow to allocate half of his or her salary to the people if he or she wins the election. I challenge any of them to do that.”

He replaced Mr Gumbo Ali Touray in 2020, after Mr Touray stepped down as leader of the All-People’s Party, paving way for the election of Dr Ebrahim Jaigne as party leader and secretary general.

Mr Touray is now selected as the party’s flag-bearer for the presidential election slated for 4th December 2021.
