Members of the West African Fula group called ‘Tabital Pulaagu’ have called for unity among members.

The meeting among other things aimed to bring Fula’s together and embrace unity towards peace and development.

Speaking at the meeting,  Mamadou Kandeh, President of the group said: “Fighting for the rights and privilege of your tribe is not tribalism but considering your tribe to be better than other tribes is tribalism.”

He expressed gratitude to the president Adama Barrow-led government for given people the required democracy to mobilize and discuss on issues regarding their tribes and organizations. This, he said was difficult under the former regime as the meeting geared towards bringing Fulas together to reflect on their cultural norms and also unite Fula’s with other tribes.

Bubacarr Cham, Secretary General of Tabital Pulaagu also said: the association is not for any political reasons and therefore urged Fulas to embrace unity and work to help educate their children.

He added that children are the future leaders and if they are not educated, they will find it difficult to lead. “Fulas should work under one umbrella to help and spread the message of love and unity among all,” he advised.

Kaddijatou Baldeh, Vice President of Tabital Pulaagu Association Gambia Chapter said any attempt geared towards promoting tribalism is not part of the group’s agenda.

“We cherish the mutual co-existence in the Gambia and we will not be involved in anything that stands to divide the people and lead the country to tribal war. Adding that, Fula’s are lagging behind everywhere because they don’t want to embrace unity among themselves but now is the time to embrace each other and promote unity among ourselves,” she said.
