Officials of GPA, GRA visit new deport in Banjul

Top official of The Gambia Port Authority and Gambia Revenue Authority have visited a new identified facility deport on Bund road in Banjul, led by GPA managing director Ousman Jobarteh and GRA led by Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe.

The visit was to assess the level of work in progress at the identified site and see what should be done to finish the work for easy operation.

Ousman Jobarteh, GPA MD, said: “this facility is meant for easy handling of cargos and transit of containers as well reduced the volume of congested cargoes at the main port.”

He disclosed that this new relocated place is hired by GPA at a cost of five million Dalasi per year. The place is a private business owned.

“The facilities encompassed with warehouse and the area is 26,000meters that can accommodate thousands of containers and cargoes which will greatly help to reduce the burden at the Port as the spaced remain a major concern and delay of operation at the Gambia Port Authority (GPA) main terminal. There is no doubt with this new relocated place will yield dividend to ensure easy and smooth operation of their work at the Port Authority,” he said.

He commended the management of GRA for their recommendation as whatever they are putting into this facility is based on the recommendation for the customers and promised that soon fully operation will start in earnest.

For his part, the commissioner General of GRA Mr. Yankuba Darboe expressed appreciation with the level of work in progress at the proposed sites, saying GRA is more than willing to work in partnership with GPA to implement this project.

“This will greatly support the smooth operation of the port and ensure free and easy handling of cargoes and containers at the port and this place has a better and wide space to operate,” he added.
