In Rome in the year 268, Emperor claudius II wanted a fierce team of young men to fight in his armies. He found that when young men are in love or sharing their lives with a. Wife and children, they tended to be more cautious
To ensure large number of soldiers for his armies , claudius outlawed marriage for those young men
Clausius may have outlawed love,but he could not stop it. Young men and women still fell on love and wanted to Become couples in the eyes of the church. A brave and obviously romantic priest name Valentine thought the law was horribly unjust
Putting his life in danger, Valentine continued performing marriage ceremonies in secret.
Still words of Valentine’s secret ceremonies made it way back to Claudius. The priest was found and executed on February 14th
Centuries later, the Catholic Church made that kindly priest a saint, one of three saints named ‘Valentine’
No one knows exactly when st. Valentine’s Day was first celebrated but there’s a poem in existence considered to be the “First ever written Valentine’s Day Card”. It was sent from a prisoner in The Tower of London to his wife in the year 1415:
My very gentle Valentine

According to CNN , 47.3% of the population in the US in 2016 who were 18 and above were single, divorced,widowed,seperated it never married or around 115.78 million people . It’s actually a very wasteful holiday
- Valentine’s Day holiday has a dark origin: Valentine’s day actually originated from a couple of pretty grim stories. According to NPR, initially, mid February was when the Roman fertility festival of Lupercalia was held where men sacrificed a goat and a Dog and repeatedly whipped Women with the hides of the dead animals in the hopes of increasing the women’s Fertility
- Valentine’s Day encourages. Comparison which isn’t good for anyone: As pictures of couples flood the social media pages on Valentine’s Day, it can be easy to question your own relationship which can be destructive and misleading
