Women’s Bureau, other to host International Zero Tolerance Day on FGM/CM

The Women’s Bureau in conjunction with partners has met to discuss the International Zero Tolerance Day on FGM/CM celebration in The Gambia scheduled for 6th February, 2021.

The one daylong meeting held at the NaNA Conference Centre by Women’s Bureau with funding from the UNICEF was attended by various organizations with presentation reports on FGM/CM.

Dilating on the upcoming celebration, Neneh Touray from Women’s Bureau reminded the gathering of the importance of the International Zero Tolerance Day for FGM/C and child marriage as it always celebrates on 6th February every year.

She noted that they are working towards the eradication of FGM/C in the country and with network for gender journalists with them.

Following their training previous training early this year, she WB has task the media to come up with something with vigorous campaign for that day for good publication.

According to her, a proposal came adding that  since they  are the custodian on  FGM/C it is important to have that interface with the media so that they can at least present their works and what have been done at various levels.

On the 9th February, she said, will be a bigger celebration but very important to tell the public what has been done so far.

Allagie A Kanteh, executive director of Nova Scotia Association Gambia noted that thanked all the partners for turning-up to discuss about their various approach on the to end FGM/C /and child marriage in the country

The only people fortune to know our approach is the ones that will come in close contact with us in our various interventions.

‘’The journalist also play an important role in eradication of FGM/C in writing in ink for the people out there and use this opportunity to go ahead, as the lawmakers also have role to play in the matter hence they are the ones responsible for making laws,” he pointed out.

Francis S. Mendy , Senior project manager at Nova Soctia, Mbassi Manneh, representative of  Think Young Women, among others made presentations at the meeting.
