The Ministry of Health has announced its readiness to embark on an ‘aggressive’ nationwide campaign about coronavirus, thus, the only way to cutdown the numbers of new Covid-19 cases in the country.

The Ministry’s announcement comes as the country braces up against the second wave of coronavirus after the country has detected a new strain – dubbed variant in two people upcoming arriving in the country last week.

Speaking to journalists, Modou Njai director of Health Promotion and Education, said: “we want to come out aggressively now and the media need to help us in that aggressive campaign by sending out messages to your radio programs that we want to see things happened. It is the only way we can be able to cutdown the number of cases we are registering currently. Otherwise, we are going to see a surge and we don’t want to go into that situation.”

“The Honourable Minister of Health Dr Ahmed Lamin Samateh has tasked this risk communication engagement committee to embark on public awareness campaign and I think this is just the beginning. So, because of the fact that numbers are increasing, if you look at it the total number of cases, we have now is 3,910. We are having over 100 deaths and 89 active cases,” he outlined.

He added that it is alarming and there is need to make sure they tried to raise awareness and also remind people that they should not be fighting about the figures.

He continued: “we already have a Covid-19 vaccination plan been developed by the Ministry [of Health] and then anytime we have the vaccine we are going to roll out the vaccination. But right now, it is yet to start people are now making stories out of it to discourage people not to accept the use of the vaccine.”
