The researchers from the departments of Psychology and Sociology and Business Law of the University of Bologna (Italy) launched a survey on Monday 14 December 2020 on “Gambian Journalists’ Perceptions about Migration, Europe and their Job”.

It is a survey research on how migrants’ and potential migrants’ perceptions about Europe are constructed, mediated and disseminated in countries abroad, including ‘The Smiling Coast’. Globally since 2015, migration flows increase contestations in political, economic and intellectual spheres and the everyday role of journalists become more relevant in migration discourse. To this end, the online survey seeks for the professional opinions and experiences of Gambian journalists’ resident in The Gambia and Europe. It is centered on awareness campaigns on migration to Europe, as well as job expectations and professional approaches of Gambian journalists.

Fellow journalists are highly encouraged to take part in the survey and express their views. It is completely anonymous and therefore, the identity of respondents will not be known. Furthermore, no IP addresses will be stored or tracked. All the data will be processed anonymously and will be collected exclusively for research and scientific publication purposes. They will not be disclosed to third parties for purposes other than those already indicated.

The interdisciplinary team of researchers from the University of Bologna welcome this new cross-sectoral cooperation between the actors from the media and the academia and has expressed its sincere gratitude towards the Gambia Press Union welcoming the initiative. The researchers are thankful for all participants who complete and further disseminate the survey.

The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to respond to and can be accessed at: https://unibopsice.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_7VAwNnMABZ7KIM5.
