Darboe Vows To Unseat Barrow In 2021

Leader of the United Democratic Party, one of the opposition parties in the Gambia, has assured his party members that he will unseat President Adama Barrow in 2021 presidential elections.

He assured further that he (after winning the seat) will address the country’s unsolved problems.

Lawyer Ousainu Darboe was speaking at a rally held at Buffer Zone on Sunday. The rally brought together hundreds of UDP supporters across the country.

“We are in this country despite we are not in government and we discovered something on how this country is governed. That’s why I setup a strategic and policy committee to study and implement policies that would be the needs of the country.

“Because 2022 in January when I am sworn in as the fourth president of The Gambia, immediately, we are going to act on [those policies]. And I promise all of you here will be in that inauguration in January 2022, I promise you that,” Darboe told the gathering at the rally.

He was re-elected as the leader and secretary general of the UDP unchallenged at the party’s national congress held between on 18th to 20th December, 2020. He will face President Adama Barrow whom he taught politics in the next presidential election comes 2021.

Meanwhile, he said UDP has broken a record which no political party has done in the country, saying UDP is the only political party which has selected a woman as their national president.

“United Democratic Party made a history yesterday. There have been political parties since in the 1950s but all those parties haven’t selected a woman as their national president, only United Democratic Party has done that,” he said.

Meanwhile, UDP elected Aji Yamundaw Yarbo as their national president.
