Gambia €10m pilot project seeks to address poverty

The Gambia’s €10 million pilot project grants seeks to contribute to the nation’s sustainable development as well as support infrastructure, equipment and investment.

Also, It will support production, processing and marketing with vocational training and skill training for young people.

The project targets horticulture, poultry and fisheries in Greater Banjul Area, Lower River Region and Upper Rever Region, as The Gambia emerged first country among 16 Ecowas member-states to access such project from German Ministry of International Cooperation in 2019.

Speaking to jorunalists, PEM Consult nNational Cooordinator, Pa Saibo Beyai said: “It’s large in complex project with overall program of objective to contribute to the stability and sustainable development for Gambia. It has three-value chain that’s horticulture, poultry and fish value change.

“The program also has landing sites which were budiling the infrasturral, these are Barra included Jeshwang, Banjul, Brufut, Batakunku and Tanji.We  also have another grant which we have rolled out as window one, It has two applicants – window one and window two and currently we are rolling out window one and the applicants are: cooperative, farmer organistaions and youth organisation and Kafos as well,” he added.

Window two which is following the widow one is for individual households, small meduim enterprises and companies can apply, too, he said.

Modou Sarr,  also echoed similar remarks as he commended the media for plying a crucial role in the society.
