Thousands of shoppers storm Serrekunda market amid rise in Covid-19 cases

Thousands of people have stormed the Serrekunda market for shopping before the Tobaski celebration.

Obviously, both sellers and their customers take no cognizant of exercising social distancing as they were scrambling to buy materials ahead of the celebration.

The country has registered 326 cases of coronavirus with 46 active cases and 8 deaths since the virus emerged in the country in March, 2020.

Lamin Ceesay, a business man, told The Voice that “there is no social distance as far as Serrekunda Market is concern, and some people are coming to the market without wearing face mask.’’

According to him, he said face mask should be used in order to prevent selves from the pandemic. He pointed out that some people are not taking it serious as “they forgot prevention is better than cure.”

He urged the Government to engage more police force to make people wear the face mask hence people found it hard to maintain social distance.

Sang Mary Mendy, said: “there is no social distance measure taken but we should protect ourselves by using the face masks” He added that tobaski is at the corner and everyone is rushing to do shopping for the family “due to that some people are not taking concern about the pandemic and if the situation continues like this, the country should expect more cases.”
